5 Easy Flatbread Pizza Recipes (2)

If you’re not taking advantage of premade flatbread crusts you’re really missing out. Flatbread crusts are a phenomenal way to make several mini pizzas at home without a lot of effort. So easy that you can prepare 5 different pizza recipes in about 10-15 minutes.

The crust/bread is fully cooked so you don’t need to go about rolling out lots of dough. It’s a fun way to experiment with several different pizza toppings and ensure everyone has their favorite za.

Flatbread pizza can be made with naan bread or traditional flatbread. You can get flatbreads in larger 10-12 inch or smaller 6-7 inch crusts—the perfect size for personal or mini pizzas. The beauty lies in the variety you can spin out in a short amount of time. They’re ideal for quick appetizers or shareable pizzas for 4.

Beyond flatbread, I’ve also perfected how to grill a pizza. On rainy days, a cast iron skillet makes a mean pizza! And then of course we have our pizza-adjacent calzones, and I love either chicken parmesan or a zippy buffalo chicken option.

How Many Flatbread Pizzas Can I Make With These Ingredients?

I was able to easily make 5 small flatbread pizzas using all the parts listed with A LOT of leftover ingredients. 8 ounces of mozzarella is enough to make about 4 flatbreads alone. You can easily make 10-15 small pizzas using ingredient quantities as listed in the recipe, assuming you make a wide variety.

For small pizzas, I like to use mozzarella pearls. Mozzarella pearls are small 1/2-inch balls of fresh mozzarella cheese sold in an 8-ounce pouch or packet. You can use a larger ball of fresh mozzarella and chop, however, mozzarella pearls are really easy to use and save time.

If doubling each variation in this recipe, just grab 1 extra 8-ounce pouch of fresh mozzarella for pizzas that call for it.

How To Bake Flatbread Pizzas

I cooked my flatbreads on 11X17 baking sheets. The heavier sheet pans seemed to crisp the crust better than square cookie sheets. The crust is already pre-cooked, so it’s really a matter of crisping and heating toppings. If you cook all pizzas at once on two racks, rotate the pans from top to bottom halfway through baking for even cooking.

These can also be grilled in 5-7 minutes on medium-high heat with the cover down. Just be sure to oil grill grates with olive oil. Let’s jump in.

1. Classic Margherita Flatbread

Made with red sauce and fresh mozzarella. You can garnish with a little fresh basil right out of the oven if you prefer. A simple pizza recipe that never fails.

2. Pesto and Mozzarella Flatbread

Basil pesto sauce, fresh mozzarella, and sliced cherry tomatoes. You can buy premade pesto or make your own fresh pesto easily. Look for basil pesto sold in the deli area if you can, it’s usually greener and fresher. I always opt for homemade because it’s so much better! This pizza is also great with a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

3. Pepperoni & Hot Honey Flatbread

Made with red sauce, a blend of Italian cheese, pepperoni, and spicy honey. This pizza is sweet, savory, and a little spicy. It’s one of my new favorite pizza combos and a must-try for pepperoni lovers!

4. Prosciutto, Fig, and Arugula Flatbread

Fig jam, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, arugula, and an optional balsamic reduction. A savory-sweet flatbread that is one of my favorite ingredient combos ever. This pizza features no red sauce for a unique take.

5. Pepper, Onion & Mushroom Flatbread

Red sauce, cheese, red onion, poblano pepper, and mushrooms make for a simple and delicious veggie pizza. You can also add sweet Italian sausage for a meatier take. I like this version because the poblano pepper adds more flavor than your typical bell pepper.

Note: The fresh mozzarella cheese, shredded Italian blend cheese, and red pizza sauce can be used across all pizzas listed below. There will be plenty extra of all three ingredients.

Instructions

Baking instructions for all flatbreads

  • Preheat oven to 425°F.

  • Bake all flatbreads for about 12-15 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted and the crust is golden and reaches the desired level of crispiness. Flatbreads tend to continue to crisp out of the oven if left to cool on a hot baking sheet. These can also be grilled in about 5-7 minutes on medium-high heat with the cover down. Just be sure to oil grill grates with oil.

Classic Margherita

  • Top flatbread with a light layer (1/4 cup) of pizza sauce and top with mozzarella pearls. Garnish with chopped basil just before serving.

Pepper, onion & mushroom

  • Top flatbread with a light layer (1/4 cup) of pizza sauce and sprinkle with shredded cheese as needed. Top with pepper, onion, and mushrooms. You can also add pre-cooked sweet Italian sausage as well.

Prosciutto, fig & mozzarella

  • Spread 2-3 tablespoons of fig jam on the flatbread. Top with mozzarella pearls and chunks of prosciutto torn apart with hands. Once out of the oven, top with fresh arugula and a drizzle of balsamic glaze

Spicy pepperoni

  • Top flatbread with a light layer (1/4 cup) of pizza sauce and top with shredded cheese. Cover with whole or halved pepperoni slices. Drizzle with hot honey just before serving.

Pesto, mozzarella & tomato

  • Top flatbread with 3-4 tablespoons of basil pesto. Top with fresh mozzarella pearls and halved cherry tomatoes. A balsamic glaze drizzle also works really well on this pizza!

Notes

I was able to easily make 5 small flatbread pizzas using all the ingredients above with A LOT of leftover ingredients. 8 ounces of mozzarella is enough to make about 4 flatbreads alone. You can easily make 10-15 small pizzas using the ingredient quantities as listed above, assuming you make a variety. If doubling each variation above, just grab 1 extra 8-ounce pouch of fresh mozzarella for pizzas that call for it.

You can use a larger ball of fresh mozzarella and chop, however, mozzarella pearls are really easy to use because they’re sold as small precut circles of fresh mozzarella.
