Hawaiian Ham and Cheese Sliders – Make These TONIGHT!

If you were to ever pick just ONE recipe to make ham and cheese sliders using Hawaiian bread for the rest of your life, it would be these. Like, you really, have to make them. They're just that good!

🍴 MENU PLAN NOTE: This recipe can also be found in our Freezer Meals Plan: Week 10!

A few years ago I was heading out to scrapbook with a few friends for the weekend, and we each bring along a dish to share. While I've made these slow cooker ham and swiss sliders before, I was in a hurry and found these sandwiches, and oh-my-word, I'm so glad I did! I will never make these sandwiches another way.

These were heavenly.I left my husband a batch at home that weekend and he devoured them, in the midst of surviving three kids all by himself. Normally that's not a big deal, but he was on crutches at the time so I figured the least I could do was cook for him!

These are SO good and they're just perfect for making up ahead of time (you can even freeze them!) Think of these for busy nights when you're running around to different activities and need to get dinner done FAST. And plus, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to mess up a King's Hawaiian Roll (you can use a plain ole' bakery roll, but there's something just perfect about those Sweet Rolls that makes everything taste divine . . . ),and secondly ~ well ~ butter, onion, ham and Swiss . . . need I say more?

Here's how to make Ham and Cheese Sliders in just a few easy steps:

First, gather up your ingredients:

You'll want to grab some Hawaiian Rolls, quality cheese, a good deli ham and your toppings (this is where all the flavor comes from!)

We have always used King's brand Hawaiian Rolls, but many grocery chains now carry generic, so keep an eye out for that! You can also sub a different flavor of cheese if you don't like Swiss – Provolone or White American would be delicious too. You'll also want to have aluminum foil for baking and extra for freezing if you don't want to eat these right away.

Quick Instructions:

To get started making your hot ham and cheese sliders, you'll want to separate the top of the rolls from the bottom of the dinner rolls. You can use a serrated knife to do this (just try to keep it even!)

Mix up your poppy seeds, melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard to make a yummy butter mixture. You could also just use a honey mustard mix, but we really love the butteriness of that mix 🙂 Spoon half of this over your bottom layer of rolls. You could even add a bit of onion powder to the mixture too if you prefer!

Next, take your ham and Swiss cheese and layer over the bottom of the sliders. Top with the other half of the rolls, drizzle the rest of the butter sauce, cover with foil, and preheat your oven.

If you're making these up right away to eat (maybe for game day?), place them either on a slab of aluminum foil or into a baking dish and cook for about 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted through.

YUM!

Since I make these so often, I have a few tricks to make them even tastier! I prefer to use an unsweetened ham from the deli. Since the glaze brings the sweetness factor, no need for the honey ham. I've found that I can leave the poppy seeds out and they taste just as delicious.

Reheating Ham and Cheese Sliders

You can simply warm them in the microwave but our favorite way to reheat them is by brushing a little more melted butter on top and then place them in the oven at 375 degrees for about 5-10 minutes – don't forget to keep that foil over them so they don't dry out though.

While Swiss is the first cheese that comes to mind with ham, Cheddar is second in popularity (and the first choice for many) for a classic ham and cheese sandwich, and makes a nice plate partner for ham. How do you keep sliders warm for a crowd? ›

If you're making the sliders for a party and want to keep the cheeseburgers warm, once they're cooked, place them in a slow cooker on warm. I use this Casserole Crock Pot. Keep the buns and toppings on the side.

However, if you bake them too long the top will burn. It is important that for the first 15 minutes of the baking time they are covered with foil. In the last 10 minutes of baking, the foil comes off and it allows the tops of the sliders to crisp up in the best way.
