Dan Wootton has issued a five-word reply to online trolls after Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales confirmed she is undergoing treatment for cancer. The former GB News presenter took to X and said the trolls should "hang their head in shame".

He wrote: "BREAKING: PRINCESS CATHERINE REVEALS CANCER DIAGNOSIS. Sending love and strength to the future Queen. I hope the Sussex Squad who have been perpetuating the most horrendous rumours these past few weeks hold their head in shame."

Dan later went on to say: "A truly extraordinary and scary moment for the Royal Family. Both the King and future Queen battling very serious cancer. The weight of the world is now on the shoulders of Prince William - he is carrying the future of his family and the monarchy." (sic)

At 6pm, BBC News and ITV News shared a clip of Kate discussing her health following her abdominal operation. "I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery," Kate explained.

"It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.

"In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.

"My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment."

The Princess of Wales admitted the news came as "a huge shock" to her family and said it "has taken time to explain everything" to her three children.

"Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.

"We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery."

She added: "At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone."

Other celebrities have also led tributes to Kate online and saw Dan Walker issuing a plea to the public.

He wrote on X: "BREAKING NEWS The Princess of Wales is undergoing treatment for cancer.

"What a tough time for the royal family. I am sure Kate, like the king, will have the best possible care and I hope she is ok.

"I hope that ends the conspiracy theories and she gets the privacy she has asked for."
