Some things are just meant to be, like Chocolate and Orange. Tangy citrus and rich chocolate really compliment each other as chocolate often has fruity notes that are enhanced by the flavor of fresh orange.

My microwave Chocolate and Orange Fudge is one of my favorite ways to combine these two flavors — perfect for the holidays or just because.

How to Make Orange Flavored Fudge

Besides how the flavors compliment one another, one of the best things about chocolate and orange fudge is that it’s so easy to make. To make this lovely flavor variation, you simply make my Microwave Fudge base, then add in fresh orange zest.

If you want to take it a step further, you can even add in orange liquor for that extra hit of citrus.

How Long Does Chocolate and Orange Fudge Last?

My Microwave Fudge is so great to make over the holidays, as it stores wonderfully in an airtight container on the kitchen counter for up to four weeks. I love to make a batch in advance and keep it handy all holiday season, this way chocolate and orange fudge is always waiting for me and I am never waiting for it.

Note: This fudge has the best flavor and texture when stored at room temperature.

How do you make homemade fudge firmer? ›

Harden the fudge: Place your container or tins in the fridge for 2 hours, which is the time it takes for the fudge to set. Once it's hardened, cut the fudge into 12 pieces or remove it from the muffin tins. Store in the fridge or the freezer (if you don't devour it right away).

What makes fudge thicken? ›

Cooking is necessary to dissolve sugar crystals and to evaporate part of the water in the cream. The length of this step has a direct impact on the firmness of the fudge. As water gradually evaporates, sugar is concentrated and the temperature of the mixture rises above 100°C (212°F).

How much cornstarch to thicken fudge? ›

If you do not want your fudge to be overly sweet, you can combine 1 tbsp corn starch with 1 tbsp water and slowly mix into your fudge mixture. This should allow your fudge to thicken, because cornstarch is a thickeneing agent in desserts.

How to make fudge more solid? ›

there is too much leftover water in the syrup and the resulting fudge is soft. Then let it boil until the thermometer reaches 114 to 115 °C (237 to 239 °F).

What makes fudge firmer? ›

The amount of time you cook fudge directly affects its firmness. Too little time and the water won't evaporate, causing the fudge to be soft. Conversely, cook it too long and fudge won't contain enough water, making it hard with a dry, crumbly texture.

What is the secret to smooth fudge that is not gritty? ›

Once a seed crystal forms, it grows bigger and bigger as the fudge cools. A lot of big crystals in fudge makes it grainy. By letting the fudge cool without stirring, you avoid creating seed crystals.

Can I reboil fudge that didn't set? ›

How can you fix soft fudge? Put it in a microwave safe bowl that is large enough that it won't boil over. Reheat it to the boiling point and cook for about 3 more minutes. Then you can beat some powdered sugar into it if this doesn't make it set.

When to stop beating fudge? ›

Once the mixture has cooled enough, use a wooden spoon or an electric hand mixer to beat the fudge until you see the very first signs of the mixture shifting from glossy to matte. Believe yourself when you think you see them! If you over-mix the fudge it will set in your pot.

How do you thicken liquid in the microwave? ›

How do you fix fudge that is too dry? ›

In the oven - wrap the fudge in foil with a tiny bit of water, perhaps 2-3 teaspoons and bake at a low temperature (120-140C or 248-284F) for 10-20 minutes, or until the fudge no longer feels/looks dried out.

How do you soften hard fudge in the microwave? ›

Cut the fudge into small pieces around one inch and put it on the plate and place each fudge with the distance in between. Keep a bowl of water inside the microwave along with the fudge to create moisture for the pieces to inhale. Next, microwave the fudge pieces for just 10 seconds.

Why is my microwave fudge grainy? ›

Fudge usually behaves this way when it's not cooked to a high enough temperature (due to oversight or a faulty candy thermometer). If your fudge is tough, hard, or grainy, then you may have made one of several mistakes: You may have overcooked it, beaten it too long, or neglected to cool it to the proper temperature.
