Tuna Dip - My Gorgeous Recipes (1)

Canned tuna is so underrated. Canned goods usually are, to be honest. But I do believe in making the most of any ingredient, and a nice can of good tuna can be used in so many dishes, from appetizers likeEasy Tuna and Potato Patties, or a good old Tuna Pasta Bake or Tuna Pasta Salad.

Fresh tuna can be rather expensive, so why not stack up on some canned tuna, and use it whenever inspiration strikes. I usually plan in advance what recipes to post on the blog, but this tuna dip has crossed my mind rather out of the blue, and here you have, the perfect dip for every occasion.

If you are a football fan, you won't want to miss this yummy tuna appetizer, it can be served with pretty much anything you like, and bonus point, it's healthy too. I know we like to binge watch, and junk food is the usual suspect, but why not have something delicious and nutritious too?

Ingredients used

And when I say easy, I really mean easy. The only "effort" is chopping the spring onions, other than that, all we have to do is mix all the ingredients together.

  • canned flaked tuna - I used tuna in brine, but tuna in oil could be used too
  • cream cheese - feel free to use sour cream or mayo if you are not a big fan of cream cheese, or a combination of any of these
  • spring onions - regular onions or shallots can be used instead, I'm not a big fan of raw onions, but I don't really mind spring onions at all
  • lemon juice - it really gives a nice kick to this dip, I strongly recommend using it
  • mustard - I used dijon, but a regular yellow mustard can be used instead too
  • salt and pepper to taste - no need for much really, the other ingredients can do the trick

Mix everything well, and there you have, a super simple canned tuna dip that is absolutely amazing.

Recipe variations

If you like everything spicy, you can take this dip to a whole new level by adding chilli peppers or any kind, jalapeno being a favourite, or just a pinch of ground chilli.

Whether you use cream cheese, mayo or sour cream, we need a creamy addition to bind the ingredients together.

The dip itself is low carb, and if you'd like to keep it this way, you can serve it either with fresh crunchy vegetables like cucumber, carrots or celery sticks, or some low carb crackers. It's totally up to you!

I usually go for salmon whenever I feel like having fish, but in this recipe tuna looses that strong "fishy" taste, the cream cheese is the perfect balance to get a delicious dip that can be enjoyed by salmon lovers too.

Expert tips

Make sure you drain the tuna well before adding the other ingredients to it, otherwise the dip will be too watery, and the cream cheese won't bind the ingredients well anymore.

Also, depending on the type of cream cheese you use, if it's a bit watery, make sure you drain that too, for the same reasons listed above.
