Vintage Wedding Ring Squares – INSTRUCTIONS

Ch 6
Round 1: Start with *dc into the 6th chain from your hook, then chain 2*. Repeat this sequence from * to * a total of 6 times. Finally, slip stitch to the original Ch 6. At this point, you’ll see 8 “spokes” formed, each consisting of 7 double crochets and a Ch 3, with 2 chains between each spoke.

Round 2: Ch 3, make 4 double crochet popcorn stitch into the Ch 2 space (this space was created between where you placed your slip stitch and the first double crochet in round 1). *Chain 3, create a 5 double crochet popcorn stitch in the Ch 2 space* Repeat from * to * 6 times, Ch 3, slip stitch to the 3rd chain of the beginning Ch 3, slip stitch in the top of the popcorn stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch.

Round 3: Ch 3, double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches (these come from the chains in round 2), chain 3. In the chain-3 space, work* [5 double crochets, chain 3, 5 double crochets], Ch 3, skip the popped stitch, double crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, Ch 3*. Repeat from * to * twice.

In the chain-3 space, work [5 double crochets, Ch 3, 5 double crochets], Ch 3, slip stitch to the 3rd Ch of the beginning chain-3.

Round 4: Ch 3, double crochet in the same stitch as the chain-3 you just made, double crochet in the next stitch, and then work 2 double crochets in the next stitch. Chain 3, *skip the chain-3 space, and in the next chain-3 space, make 5 double crochets pop, chain 5, and then make another 5 double crochets pop. Chain 3, skip the next chain-3 space, and work 2 double crochets in the next double crochet from the previous round (rnd3), followed by a double crochet in the next stitch and 2 double crochets in the stitch after that. Chain 3*. Repeat from * to * twice. In the chain-3 space, [make 5 double crochets pop, chain 5, and then make another 5 double crochets pop]. Ch 3, and slip stitch to the 3rd chain of the beginning Ch 3.

Round 5: Ch 3, double crochet in base of the ch 3 you just made. Double crochet in the next stitch, Ch 1, skip a stitch, DC in the next stitch, 2 DC in the next stitch, Ch 3. *Skip the chain-3 space, [5 DC pop, Ch 3, 5 DC pop, Ch 3, 5 DC pop] in the chain-5 space, Ch 3, skip the chain-3 space, 2 double crochets in the next stitch, double crochet in the next stitch, chain 1, skip a stitch, double crochet in the next stitch, 2 double crochets in the next stitch, chain 3.* Repeat from * to * twice. [5 double crochets pop, Ch 3, 5 double crochets pop, Ch 3, 5 pop] in the chain-5 space, Ch 3, slip stitch to the 3rd chain of the beginning chain-3.

Round 6: Start with Ch 3. Double crochet (dc) into the base of the chain-3 you just made. Then, double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Chain 1, skip a stitch, double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, and 2 DC in the sext stitch. Chain 3.

Now, *skip the chain-3 space, and in the next chain-3 space, work [5 double crochets pop, chain 3, 5 double crochets pop], then chain 3. [5 double crochets pop, chain 3, 5 double crochets pop] in next chain-3 space, Ch 3, then skip the Ch 3 space, 2DC in the next stitch, DC in each of the next 2 stitches, Ch1, skip the stitch, DC in each of the next 2 stitches, Ch 3.* Repeat this pattern from * to * twice. Then, in the next chain-3 space, work [5 double crochets pop, chain 3, 5 double crochets pop], chain 3. Repeat this pattern for the next chain-3 space too. Finally, Ch 3 and slip stitch to the 3rd chain of the beginning chain-3.

Round 7: Chain 3, double crochet 2 together, chain 3, double crochet 3 together (this forms a double crochet, chain, double crochet cluster from round 6), chain 3, double crochet 3 together, chain 3.

*Skip the chain-3 space, then in the next chain-3 space, work [5 double crochets pop, chain 3, 5 double crochets pop], Ch 3, work [5 dc pop, Ch 3, 5 dc pop] in next Ch 3 space, chain 3, [5 dc pop, Ch 3, 5 dc pop] in next Ch 3 space, Ch 3. Skip the next chain-3 space, then work double crochet 3 together, chain 3, double crochet 3 together, chain 3, double crochet 3 together, chain 3.*

Repeat from * to * two more times. In the next chain-3 space, work [5 double crochets, chain 3, 5 double crochets], chain 3. Repeat this pattern in the next two chain-3 spaces. Chain 3, then slip stitch to the beginning double crochet 2 together stitch. Fasten off.

Attaching 4 squares together in the middle:

Attach yarn at center ch 3 sp on one of the squares, ch 3, 4dc pop, ch 1, *in the centerch3spof the 2ndsquare work a 5dc pop,ch1* repeat from * to * twice, slst to beg pop, FO.

Connecting four squares in the middle:

Start by fastening the yarn at the central chain-3 space on one of the squares. Chain 3, perform a set of 4 double crochet stitches (dc pop), chain 1.

Within the center chain-3 space of the second square, execute a set of 5 double crochet stitches (5dc pop), chain 1. Repeat the * to * sequence twice.

Slip stitch to the beginning point of the previous set, and then fasten off.
